KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin says he may reveal the details of corruption allegations against the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on Friday.
Referring to the allegations of corruption contained in the pen drive that was handed to him by the Tunku Mahkohta of Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim last Friday, Khairy said that he was still going through the documents.
“Many of the documents contain technical issues on football, such as training methods and the national team.
“It is not documents on corruption alone. I am looking at the documents to find where instances of corruption is mentioned.
“There are some people who misunderstand and think that the documents are all about corruption alone. It is not so simple,” Khairy said after opening the Bandar Tun Razak Umno division meeting here today.
Khairy added that only if he finds instances of corruption, would he then hand over such evidence in the pen drive to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“Surely I don’t want to give MACC documents pertaining to football strategies which have no relevance to corruption.”
However, he said he may decide to just give all the documents to the MACC in the interest of transparency.
The pen drive reportedly contains 279 pages of documents.
TMJ had last month revealed, via the Johor Southern Tigers official Facebook page, that he possessed a pen drive containing documents that will show there was corruption in FAM.
However, when the MACC asked him to surrender the pen drive to them, TMJ denied the request, saying: “There are plenty of other bigger cases in the country that MACC is still not able to solve. Perhaps it’s better to focus on these unsolved cases.” – FMT
